Summary Locals protested against the increasing number of deaths of the infants.

Locals in Srinagar, the summer capital of north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir protested on Saturday against increasing number of deaths of the infants due to the negligence of the hospital. Speaking to mediapersons, a protester Ghulam Mohammad Dar informed reporters about the motive of the protest.Whenever, I visit any doctor with my ill child, they ask me to go to some other doctor and when I go to some other doctor, then again they ask me to see another doctor. We admitted the child. Yesterday, I saw that nearly six infants died. But none of the doctors paid attention, said Ghulam Mohammad Dar.The parents of the deceased infants including the locals came out in droves and shouted anti-government slogans. The protesters also complained that the hospital faced acute shortage of professional doctors and other medical staff.According to media reports, more than 300 infants died in the past five months in the city. Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of G B Hospital, Mushtaq Ahmed assured that he would look into the matter and assured that action would be taken against the guilty.Although the provincial government ordered a probe into the matter but the news of infants death sent shock waves all across the city. Most of the dead infants were less than a year old.
