UN chief Ban Ki-moon congratulated Algeria for its peaceful parliamentary elections and welcomed a rise in representation of women in the legislature.Ban encouraged Algerias government and all political parties in the country to cooperate in an inclusive and peaceful manner to contribute to the implementation of the political and constitutional reforms and strengthen the democratic process in Algeria, his office said in a statement Monday.The secretary-general reiterates the continued commitment of the United Nations to supporting Algerias efforts for socio-economic development and democratic reforms, he added following results of the May 10 elections. The government announced a turnout of 42 percent for last weeks polls but several parties and observers believe a much smaller percentage of the electorate cast ballots, amid ever-deep disaffection among Algerias electorate.
