Laura Adshead - her real name - met Cameron while studying in Oxford and dated him from 1990 till 1991.Then Cameron was selected for political stardom, while she left for business school in the US. She became an Ogilvy and Mather executive in Manhattan but the stresses of success, and, perhaps, of personal rejection, proved too much for her. She descended into a world of drinking and addiction before finding salvation in religion. Her downward spiral may have started soon after her break-up with Cameron.
