Ang San Su Chi, opposition leader in Myanmar, has been detained for further 18 months while an American nominated in the case has been sentenced seven years rigorous imprisonment. A court in Rangoon sentenced Su Chi for three years and US citizen John for seven years. The court took an interval of five minutes after the decision. Following the court decision, Interior Minister Burma entered the court and read an order by the military ruler under which three-year imprisonment of Su Chi was changed into 18 months detention. Hundreds of security officials had surrounded the jail on the occasion. Su Chi is accused of letting an American living in his house that had achieve access to his home.
