Lost dog Muffy found after nine years apart from owners

Summary

Australian animal protection officers found this found flea-bitten dog in a squalid backyard in Melbourne, sleeping on a piece of tattered cardboard. Little did they know that the scruffy bitsa as terrier-cross breeds are known, was named Muffy and had been seen last by her owners nine years ago, 1,700 km away. Muffy's owners, the Lampard family, had given her up for dead after she disappeared from a friend's house. The RSPCA Victoria, who were alerted to Muffy through an anonymous call, were amazed to find an underskin microchip through which they traced the dog's owners. The dog is expected to be reunited with the Lampards next week. Muffy is believed to have been at the house in Melbourne where she was found for about a year after she was picked up as a stray. Noone knows where she had been for the previous eight years.
