Summary Atleast three persons are injured in a leopard attack in the heart of a city of India's Assam state.

A stray leopard attacked three persons in Indias northeastern Assam state. The leopard had strayed from the adjacent jungles in the Nabagraha hill into the heart of Guwahati city.Panic struck the residential area as the locals tried to drive away the animal and informed the forest department officials. The leopard ran into a nearby shack and was kept locked in it till the officials tranquillised it and then captured it.Narrating the incident, Diganta Borah, an injured man, said that the leopard attacked him when he went to chase the animal away from a room.I had gone upstairs, on the first floor, to hit it. It was hiding under some things inside the room. I had gone to hit it, but I did not have any baton with me. Another man was coming behind me and because of him I fell and that was when the leopard bite me, Borah said.He also blamed rampant deforestation of Nabagraha hill as the reason behind the leopard straying into the city area. The growth of human habitation and its encroachment on forests has led to a marked increase in animal-human conflicts across India.
