Summary Hundreds of Arabian horses participated in the championship for the beauty of Arabian horses.

The event which kicked off on Thursday (October 5) attracted horse enthusiasts from a number of countries in the Middle East.“The goal of this competition is to evaluate horses based on their Arabian characteristics. It is also for breeders to meet and know each other. This competition is one of five recognized championships for Arabian horses, which is equivalent to the European championship,” said Princess Alia Bint al-Hussein.Princess Alia is also president of the Royal Equestrian Federation, the body that organises the annual event.Judges from the Middle East and Europe graded the horses participating in the contest based on their pace, presence, and mettle. They also looked for characteristics which distinguish Arabian horses such as their narrow noses, flared nostrils, concave profiles, the shape of their ears, and the grandeur of their necks.Awards were given to winning mares, stallions and geldings, with the majority of the award-winning horses coming from Jordan,“Our participation was excellent and we achieved good results in the championship, thank God. We won the championship for senior females and young females and males,” said a local breeder, Jamal Kahouq.The Arabian horse is deeply ingrained in Arab history and culture and has a known history in the region which spans 5,000 years. It is considered one of the purest equine breeds and is known for its beauty as well as endurance, courage, strength and loyalty.
