Dozens of men participated in the fourth annual ‘Walk a Mile in her Shoes’ event at the University of Alaska Anchorage as they tried to create awareness and raise money for a local non-profit organization that supports sexual assault victims.The men were holding banners with messages which said ‘No Means No’ and ‘Shatter the Silence’ as they marched a mile. The donations to ‘Standing Together against Rape’ will go toward banishing sexual assaults and other acts of violence against women.Alaska Native Justice Centre Director, Walt Monegan, said that he was taking part because the issues of sexual assault need to be highlighted. He said that sexual assault is still a sensitive topic for some which is why bringing it in a humorous fashion would eases the acceptance and discussion of it.A recent study by the federal government indicates that colleges and universities in the United States rarely expel students for sexual assault. The punishment for anyone found guilty of sexual assault, or aggravated sexual varies, depending on the age of the victim and their mental capacity.
