Summary Bank robberies in the United States take place most often in mid-mornings, on Fridays.
Statistics released by the FBI show that in 2010, robbers stole a little more than US$ 43 million, in 5,546 robberies of banks, credit unions and other financial institutions, nationwide.According to the statistics, most of the robberies took place in the southern and western states. The South led the way with 1,790 bank robberies, followed by the West with 1,691.California had the most robberies at 805, followed by Texas with 464 robberies. North Dakota had the least, as only two bank robberies were reported. Overall, there were 5,628 reported bank crimes, which included 5,546 bank robberies, 74 burglaries, 13 extortion of financial institutions and eight larcenies.The report also showed a decrease in bank robberies as there were a total of 6,065 such crimes reported in 2009.Nearly all of the looted US$ 43 million was cash, out of which only US$ 8 million was later recovered.
