Summary Four pre-Columbian mummies, two believed to be among the world's oldest, were returned to Chile.
Two of the mummies are from the Chinchorro culture in northern Chile and date back to 5000 BC, putting them among the worlds oldest mummies. Chile was hoping to recover more ancient pieces. Many have been lost due to robberies, he said. One of the mummies dates back to the time of the Spanish conquest and another is pre-conquest, although authorities arent certain of the time period.
