Summary Thousands gather in Ukraine's capital Kiev to set a world record for doing morning exercises.

About 15,000 people participated in an event in Kiev on Sunday to establish a new Guinness World Record for the largest number of people taking part together in morning exercises, organisers said. Thousands came to the Obolonsky embankment in the Ukrainian capital on the so-called Champions Day to participate in the record attempt which should be acknowledged as valid, organisers said.According to their data, the previous mass morning exercise record was set in Mexico with about 8,500 participants. There has never been something like this before. We gathered at least twice as many people as there were in any other previous attempts to do mass morning exercises or to conduct mass events of this kind, said the founder of Ukraines National Register of Records, Valentin Shcherbachyov. We see that more than 15,000 people are a fantastic number. They demonstrate such enthusiasm and such a healthy way of life. So this record will not be beaten for a long time in the future, he added. The goal of the event was not just setting the record but showing people how to overcome their weakness and win in their everyday life, one of organisers said. The record should be officially registered within the next month, and the organisers vow to send every participant an official certificate of participation by Oct. 21.
