Carrier pigeon is still faster than broadband
Updated on

Summary

It may be the broadband age, but an experiment held recently in South Africa proves that carrier pigeon is still a faster way to transfer information. An IT company TELKOM in Durban, South Africa set up a data transfer race between the ADSL service of the country's largest provider, and a carrier pigeon called Winston. The company obtained a carrier pigeon, and sent it off with a 4GB memory stick to a destination 80 miles away. Winston covered the distance in one hour and eight minutes, and once he got there it took another hour to transfer the data on to the company's system. Meanwhile, the ADSL connection had transmitted just four per cent of the data and took total time of 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds for transferring.
