Summary Pakistan’s Muhammad Shoaib stormed into the ITF Championship singles semi-finals in Islamabad after a hard-fought win over Turkiye’s Kerim Yilmaz.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s Muhammad Shoaib booked his place in the singles semi-finals of the ongoing ITF Championship in Islamabad after producing an impressive performance against Turkiye’s Kerim Yilmaz.
Competing in the ITF Championship League Two event, Shoaib battled through a tense quarter-final clash to secure victory in straight sets. The Pakistani player overcame Yilmaz 6-4, 7-6(9) in a fiercely contested encounter that kept spectators engaged throughout the match.
The second set proved particularly dramatic as both players pushed each other deep into the tie-break. Shoaib held his nerve during crucial moments to seal the win and confirm his spot in the last four of the tournament.
Other players to progress to the singles semi-finals include Sweden’s Arvid Nordquist, Russia’s Nikita Ianin and Italy’s Edoardo Chiera, setting up a strong international line-up for the closing stages of the competition.
In the doubles event, Pakistan’s Muzammil Murtaza and his partner Grigoriy Lomakin fell short in the semi-finals after losing to the Russian pairing of Andrey Konitsyn and Nikita Ianin.
The Russian duo claimed the match in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the doubles final.
Meanwhile, the Turkish pair of Mert Naci Turker and Melih Avutan also secured qualification for the doubles final, keeping Türkiye strongly represented in the tournament’s closing rounds.
The championship in Islamabad has attracted players from multiple countries, with competitive singles and doubles contests continuing to draw attention as the tournament moves towards its decisive stages.
