LAHORE (Dunya News) – British-Pakistani boxing star Amir Khan today visited the Governor House to discuss the future of boxing in Punjab, with a focus on developing the sport at grassroots level and hosting international-standard boxing events in Pakistan.

During the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening Pakistan’s boxing ecosystem by building on the success of a previous boxing event held at the Governor House. That event was highlighted as an example of Pakistan’s ability to organise high-profile sporting occasions that meet international standards.

Amir Khan spoke about plans to organise further boxing events that could attract global attention while providing local athletes with exposure to elite competition. The proposed events aim to position Pakistan as a viable destination for professional boxing while creating opportunities for emerging talent to compete on recognised platforms.

The former world champion also shared his long-standing ambition to establish a professional boxing and training gym in Punjab. He explained that the proposed facility would follow the model of similar initiatives already developed in Islamabad, offering structured training programmes, modern equipment, and professional coaching for aspiring boxers.

According to Amir Khan, the gym would focus on nurturing young talent at the grassroots level, emphasising discipline, fitness, and skill development. He highlighted the role of organised sports in offering positive pathways for youth and reducing barriers to professional training within the province.

The discussion underlined the importance of collaboration between private initiatives and government support to turn such plans into reality. Amir Khan noted that institutional backing would be essential for ensuring sustainability, accessibility, and long-term impact for boxing development across Punjab.

Officials present at the meeting acknowledged the potential of boxing as a tool for youth engagement and international sporting exchange. The talks reflected a shared interest in using sport to promote discipline, opportunity, and a positive image of Pakistan on the global stage.

The meeting also explored how future boxing events could contribute to broader objectives, including sports tourism, international partnerships, and increased visibility for Pakistani athletes within the global boxing community.
