(Reuters) - Britain’s Elfyn Evans regained the lead in the Monte Carlo Rally from his Toyota team mate Sebastien Ogier after the two morning stages on Saturday (January 25).
Ogier, a seven-times Monte Carlo winner who is making his Toyota debut, started the day with a lead of 1.2 seconds and extended his advantage to 1.6 after the day’s first stage.
But Evans won the morning’s second stage by 7.6 seconds and established an overall lead of 4.8 seconds over the Frenchman.
Belgian Thierry Neuville, who was fastest on the morning stage in his Hyundai i20, was third overall, 16.6 seconds behind Evans.
Toyota driver Takamoto Katsuta of Japan dropped back to eighth place after skidding off and hitting a snow bank.
