MILAN (Reuters) - The International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission (IOC) member, Octavian Morariu, said on Saturday (April 6) that the Milan-Cortina bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics was a "very strong candidature".

The IOC Evaluation Commission held the press conference at the end of their final inspection visit to northern Italy.

"There is a strong support from the government and the authorities, the letter that we received yesterday proves it largely," Morariu added, speaking at a news conference in Milan.

The Italian government signed the letter of financial guarantees to support the candidacy on Friday (April 5), after the week-long inspection of the Milan-Cortina bid sites.

Milan-Cortina and Stockholm-Are are the two bids to host the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The final decision on which bid will be selected will be made by the IOC in Lausanne, Switzerland on June 24.
