Siddle steals show in Ashes opener

Summary

Hat-trick hero Peter Siddle turned the first day of the Ashes series into a birthday blitz when he rocked England at the Gabba. The paceman joined spin king Shane Warne as the only Victorians to take a hat-trick in an Ashes Test - and he did it on his 26th birthday. Siddle went on to bag six wickets in what was one of the most memorable openers in Ashes history as England was dismissed for 260. Australia was 0-25 at stumps. Cricket fans around the nation were on the edge of their seats as Siddle tore through England's middle order. After having stubborn opener Alastair Cook caught at first slip by Shane Watson, Siddle rattled wicketkeeper Matt Prior's stumps first ball. He then turned his cricket dream to reality by trapping Stuart Broad lbw. A jubilant crowd gave the gutsy Victorian a standing ovation as his teammates rushed to congratulate him.
