Summary
Athletes and team officials continued to arrive in the Indian capital to participate in the Commonwealth Games set to start in a few days. The latest to arrive were from Angola, Antigua, Wales England and New Zealand which had earlier lodged complaints over sanitation issues at the Games village. England said it would send 551 athletes to the Games because there were signs of improvement on the ground in New Delhi. The Games, held every four years for mostly former British colonies, are estimated to have cost $3-6 billion. The Games were supposed to improve India's image as a rising power, but shoddy construction, dirty housing at the housing facility and security concerns raised questions about Asia's third largest economy's ability to organize such mega events. Apart from 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states India is expecting a huge inflow of spectators and tourists during this mega event. The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held from 3 to 14 October.
