Summary Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastest time in 1st practice for the Canadian Grand Prix.

MONTREAL (AP) - Formula One points leader Lewis Hamilton slowly skidded into a barrier early in the second practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix as torrential rain brought Friday s test runs to a halt.

Hamilton walked away and didn t appear to be hurt after failing to make a hairpin turn. His Mercedes Silver Arrow went straight before becoming wedged in the safety barrier. He immediately signaled that he was OK. A tow truck came out to retrieve his car.

Hamilton turned in a fastest lap of 1 minute, 16.212 seconds in the opening session at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He has won the pole position in five of the first six races this season.

Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg was second-best in the morning. Romain Grosjean of Lotus was third and Nico Hulkenberg of Force India was fourth.
