KLINGENTHAL, Germany (AP) - Severin Freund soared 135 meters in his second jump to seal Germany s victory in the opening event of the ski jump World Cup season on Saturday.
Freund, Markus Eisenbichler, Richard Freitag and Andreas Wellinger combined for a team total of 1098.0 points, ahead of Japan on 1068.9 and Norway on 1061.2.
Germany coach Werner Schuster says, "They all jumped like they were unleashed. It was fantastic and a deserved win."
Norway s Anders Fannemel had the longest jump of the day at 144 meters.
An individual competition is scheduled for Sunday.
