Summary
Some 250 delegates meeting in Warsaw under the auspices of UEFA discussed how to eradicate discrimination in football at a united against racism conference. UEFA and clubs across all Europe are fighting against racism and discrimination. We are aware that this kind of phenomenon will not disappear overnight, said the media spokesman of European football's governing body William Gaillard, noting the social and historic reasons for the problem's existence. The conference, co-organised by UEFA, players' union FIFPro and Football Against Racism in Europe, saw participants also discuss national minorities in the game as well as anti-semitism and xenophobia. Former French star Lilian Thuram was one of those who co-presented the film Show Racism the Red Card. The two-day meeting was UEFA's third on racism following a 2003 conference in London and then 2006 in Barcelona.
