Summary Argentinian midfielder appeared to call time on his five-year career with north-east club Newcastle.

LONDON (AFP) - Jonas Gutierrez has indicated he could be set for a January transfer window departure from Newcastle amid reports he may be joining up with former Magpies manager Chris Hughton at Norwich.

The 30-year-old Argentinian midfielder appeared to call time on his five-year career with north-east club Newcastle by telling his Twitter followers: "It was an honour and a pleasure to play with the Newcastle shirt and to have the support of the Geordie."

After receiving several replies lauding his career at St James  Park, Gutierrez added: "Thanks for the messages. I enjoy my 5 years at the club, I hope the club finish the highest this season and the best to my team mates." Gutierrez joined Newcastle from Real Mallorca before the start of the 2008/09 season on a five-year contract.

He has so far made 195 appearances for the Magpies and scored 11 goals but has been selected for first-team duty by current Newcastle manager Alan Pardew just twice this season, starting the 4-0 defeat by Manchester City on the opening weekend and then coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 Premier League victory at Cardiff on October 5.

Gutierrez was one of Hughton s mainstays when the Canaries manager was in charge at Newcastle from June 2009 to December 2010, a period that saw the Magpies win promotion back to the Premier League from the second-tier Championship.

Newcastle are currently eighth in the Premier League following a 2-0 defeat by leaders Manchester City on Sunday, while Norwich are just two points above the relegation zone after losing by the same scoreline to Everton on Saturday.
