AUCKLAND (AFP) - Rising American talent Jack Sock cruised through the first round of the Auckland Open on Monday, downing France s Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.

The 21-year-old, ranked 100 in the world, looked in complete control as he beat Mannarino 6-3, 6-4 in just over an hour.

"Everything felt good," he said. "The court s a little quick so still getting used to that.

"I m just going out to play my game, use my weapons and compete hard."

In the day s only other matches, Horacio Zeballos of Argentina defeated Italy s Filippo Volandri 6-0, 7-6 (7/1) and Colombian Santiago Giraldo swept aside Albert Montanes of Spain 6-1, 7-6 (7/3).

The top four seeds in the tournament, including defending champion David Ferrer, have a bye into the second round and will not play until Wednesday.
