Summary De Kock's career-best 135 anchored the innings after the hosts lost the toss.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) - Quinton de Kock s second international century and brutal 50s from AB de Villiers and JP Duminy carried South Africa to 358-4 against India in the first one-day international at the Wanderers on Thursday.

De Kock s career-best 135 anchored the innings after the hosts lost the toss and were told to bat first. De Villiers hit 77 and Duminy 59 not out.

The 20-year-old de Kock shared in a 152-run opening stand with Hashim Amla, who made 65, but the fourth-wicket stand between de Villiers and Duminy was equally damaging to India as they added 105 runs in under eight overs.

It was an unpleasant welcome for the Indian bowling attack, whose lack of preparation in South African conditions was clear in their inability to hit the correct lengths on a hard pitch.

By contrast, de Kock needed little time to settle in on his home ground, finding the boundary regularly as the more experienced Amla was content to play the supporting role.

The pair scored at more than five an over before Amla played on off the bowling of Mohammed Shami, who came away with some credit intact after taking 3-68 in his 10 overs.

The only disappointment in South Africa s innings was Jacques Kallis, but it was one that the hosts quickly brushed aside as de Villiers joined de Kock in a dominant stand.

When de Kock went to three figures in 101 deliveries during the 34th over the Proteas had hit just two sixes, but the youngster struck another two before he was caught and bowled by Virat Kohli. De Villiers and Duminy would add a further nine sixes during their partnership.

That ensured South Africa took 135 runs from the last 10 overs as India s death bowlers were found wanting, leaving its batsmen with a mountain to climb.
