BERLIN (AP) - Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has pulled out of World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Faeroe Islands because of his ankle injury.
The German Football Federation says Schweinsteiger sustained a right ankle injury during Bayern Munich s 1-1 draw with Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.
Schweinsteiger didn t play in Bayern s UEFA Super Cup win on penalties over Chelsea on Friday.
Germany, which tops World Cup qualifying Group C, plays Austria in Munich on Sept. 6 and the Faeroe Islands in Torshavn four days later.
