BARCELONA (AP) - Denmark s Rikke Pedersen has set a world record in the semifinals of the women s 200 breaststroke.
Swimming in the first heat at the world championships in Barcelona on Thursday, Pedersen blew away the field in a time of 2 minutes, 19.11 seconds. She broke the record of 2:19.59 set by American Rebecca Soni to win gold at last summer s London Olympics.
Soni is taking the year off from swimming but is in Spain to watch the championships.
