Summary Savicevic says 500,000 German marks was offered by unnamed football managers to several players.
PODGORICA, Montenegro (AP) - Dejan Savicevic says he and other former Red Star Belgrade players were offered money to lose the 1991 European club final against Marseille.
Savicevic told the Associated Press on Thursday that 500,000 German marks was offered by unnamed football managers to several Red Star players ahead of the match which they won on penalty kicks in Bari, Italy.
Star midfielder Savicevic moved to AC Milan soon after the final and is now president of the Montenegro Football Association.
He says "if the managers worked for Marseille, they were doing so probably under the orders from (Bernard) Tapie."
Former Marseille director Tapie was accused of fixing a French league match in 1993, leading to the team s relegation to the second division.
