PARIS (AP) - Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has resigned, a little over a month after he was handed a nine-month suspension for shoving a referee following a home match.

PSG says it regretted the decision by the one-time PSG player and World Cup champion with Brazil. The resignation takes effect at the end of the current transfer period in September.

In May, Leonardo was handed a nine-month ban after he appeared to deliberately barge into Alexandre Castro after a 1-1 home draw on May 5. The suspension was later extended to one year after a failed appeal by Leonardo.
