BARCELONA (AP) - The vulnerability of Pirelli s tires is a major concern for Formula One teams five races into the season and company director Paul Hembery acknowledges they are struggling to find the root cause of the problem ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix in less than two weeks.
Tires shredding like paper, rubber flying everywhere, and cars flitting in and out of the pit lane like supermarket shoppers in a car park. That was the sight for spectators at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, where nearly 80 pit stops were made on a frustrating day for drivers and fans alike.
Pirelli has been unable to resolve the problem and does not have much time left for modifications before Monaco, and Hembery says "at the moment it is very much a stab in the dark."
