SEOUL(AP) - A prominent member of South Korea's judo community has been elected head of the country's Olympic Committee.
The committee announced that Kim Jung-haeng won Friday's vote for president, defeating a ruling party lawmaker. He will serve a four-year term.
Kim quit as the longtime chair of South Korea's judo governing body earlier this month to focus on the election. The 69-year-old former judo athlete has headed the Judo Union of Asia in the past and is now serving as the International Judo Federation's marketing director.
Kim is a deputy chief of South Korea's organizing committee for next year's Incheon Asian Games. South Korea is scheduled to host the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in 2018.
