Russias Egor Mekhontcev won the mens Olympic light heavyweight gold on Sunday with a countback win over Kazakhstans Adilbek Niyazymbetov after their gold-medal bout finished 15-all.Mekhontcev, who won the heavyweight division at last years world championships and the European title in 2010, beat the world light heavyweight silver medallist by the narrowest of margins.After the Olympics this gold medal will be a good toy for my little daughter, said the 27-year-old, whose offspring Eva can expect a golden toy from London.It was a fair fight and I won, so I can only say that the judges gave me the victory.My mother and my father were sitting on the stands and watching this fight.After the victory ceremony I wanted to give the flowers to my mother but unfortunately I couldnt find her.I have been dreaming about this moment since I was 17 years old.In a tense bout, Niyazymbetov shaded the first round 4-3, but the Russian world champion managed to pull a point back by taking the second 5-4.As the third-round finished 7-7, Mekhontcev took the gold on countback and his delight at the verdict was contrasted by Niyazymbetovs dejection.Having lost in the semi-finals, Brazils Yamaguchi Falcao and Ukraines Oleksandr Gvozdyk won bronze medals.
