Summary 1.6 million tickets for men's and women's football tournaments have been sold so far.
The sales exceed the 1.4 million that were sold at this summers European Championship, London organizing committee spokeswoman Jackie Brock-Doyle said Wednesday.Football is one of two sports that kick off the London games early, along with archery.More tickets have been sold for football than any other sport largely because of the size of the venues despite some concerns that the tournaments wouldnt be much of a draw.Organizers said earlier this week that about 80 percent of the 37,000 people expected to attend Wednesdays doubleheader between U.S.-France and Colombia-North Korea in Glasgow had been handed freebies.
