Summary Chitral team defeated Gilgit team, with 10 Goals, in the three days Shandur Polo match final.
The match was played between the two at the altitude of 12,500ft high, polo ground Shandur.Team Chitral scored 10 goals against the arch rival Gilgit that could only manage 5 goals against the Reds. Chitral scored 6 goals in the first half of the game double of what Gilgit did. In the second half Chitral played an incredible game, adding 4 more goals to their first half feat.The game concluded with 10-5 on the scoreboard and Chitral lifted the 2012 Shandur Polo Trophy. Shehzad Ahmad was declared man of the match.Speaking on the occasion, Saleem Khan, Provincial Minister for Population said that the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was scheduled to watch the games but he could not make it due to bad weather condition.Governor of Gilgit- Baltistan, Pir Karam Ali Shah was the Chief Guest at the grand finale of Shandur festival; in his speech he admired the players for keeping up the traditional game of the region and the national game of the country, and announced Rs. 100,000 for each team.The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Corps Commander Gilgit and IGP Frontier Corps and other high officials were also present at the event.Whereas, a polo player of Gilgit team fell down from his horse during the match and got severe injury, however, he was rushed to the emergency hospital in Chitral, for medical ads.
