South Korea has abruptly cancelled plans to sign US coach Peter Mueller for its speed skating team as part of preparations for the Winter Olympics, the sports governing body said Wednesday.We will not recruit Mueller because problems were found during our final background check on him, a Korea Skating Union official told AFP on condition of anonymity.The unions decision came hours after it said it would soon sign a contract with Mueller, 57, who had led the US, Dutch and Norwegian teams.Mueller was fired as the coach of Norways national team in 2009 after he was accused of making inappropriate comments to a female skater. He denied sexual harassment.The union said it would continue to scout for a foreign coach for its speed skating team in hopes of bolstering medal prospects for the 2014 and 2018 winter games.
