Summary Race leader Rachid El Morabity was forced to pull out of Marathon de Sables due to a leg injury.

The gruelling 81.5 kilometre fourth stage of the Marathon de Sables took its toll on Thursday.Race leader and 2011 winner Rachid El Morabity of Morocco was forced to pull out after suffering a leg injury with one kilometre to go. He set off flares in the darkness and was quickly received emergency treatment. He was sent to hospital where he is expected to undergo surgery to a muscle wound.The stage was won by Jordans Salameh Al Aqra, who now leads the overall standings by 21 minutes.Laurence Klein of France, last years winner, won her fourth successive stage in 2012.
