The River Day was observed in Pakistan. People tossed flowers and Rose petals into the Indus River and its related canals while traditional music was also played near Indus River.Activist of Taraki Pasand Mala Organization arranged a music shows. Highlighting the importance of the day, political leaders and NGO representatives said a violation of the 1991 water accord was going on and that had caused the canals to become dry.They said thousands of acres of agricultural land of the province became barren due to the scarcity of water. They said the people of Pakistan depended on the Rivers, because the river irrigated their lands and kept the water ecology intact. They said the observance of the River Day was not a politically-motivated object, but the object of the day was to unite the people of Pakistan to exert pressure on the authorities concerned to take notice of the shortage of irrigation water.
