ISLAMABAD: Prominent activist, writer Jami Chandio has condemned Sindh Local Government Ordinance, (SLGO).

 

Addressing a seminar arranged by Sindh Graduates Association Islamabad Branch on Sunday, Chandio said that our protest was not aimed to oppose the decentralisation and governance through local government but we were against the way it had negated all the principles of democratic decentralisation”.

 

The seminar titled “A Controversial Decentralisation” was aimed at presenting the point of view and concerns of Sindh to the audience of civil society and media in the federal capital, berated those who violated all the democratic norms and legislative procedure by passing the law in haste.

 

It was stated that Sindh Local Government Act passed by Sindh Assembly was against the basic standards and norms of democracy, decentralisation, participation of masses in decision-making process; since it served only the interest of one particular political party in the ruling coalition.
