Summary Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha have challenged their 10-year jail sentences in the Islamabad High Court, seeking suspension of punishment and release on bail.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Advocates Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha have filed appeals in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging their convictions in the barrier removal case, while also seeking suspension of their sentences and release on bail.

The appeals and applications seeking suspension of sentences were filed on behalf of the two by lawyers Faisal Siddiqui, Riasat Ali Azad and Zainab Janjua.

In their appeals, the petitioners argued that the trial court had failed to fulfil the requirements of a fair trial. They also cited various judicial precedents concerning cases in which the transparency of trial proceedings had been questioned.

The appeals further stated that the jail trial was conducted in a manner resembling a secret trial, allegedly in violation of Article 10 of the Constitution.

The petitioners requested the high court to set aside the sentences awarded by the trial court, arguing that the proceedings had not met the legal requirements of a fair and transparent trial.

Through separate applications, they also urged the court to suspend their sentences and order their release on bail until the appeals were decided.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had sentenced Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha to 10 years in prison each, along with fines, in the barrier removal case.
