Summary Punjab’s Home Department has imposed a 30-day ban on outdoor drone flights over security concerns, allowing limited exceptions with written permission.

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification imposing a 30-day ban on outdoor drone flights under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, citing security concerns.

According to a spokesperson for the department, limited use of small drones will be permitted for event coverage inside halls and marquees. Organisers will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones during such events.

The ban was imposed by the Punjab home secretary under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Intelligence agencies and law enforcement organisations have been exempted from the restrictions.

The Home Department has established district-level Safe Drone Usage Committees to grant written permission for drone operations. Drones may be used for agricultural, irrigation and research purposes with prior written approval from the relevant committee.

Officials said drone operations authorised in writing by the committees would remain exempt from the ban.

Authorities across Punjab, including the administration and police, have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the orders.
