LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) — The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended the Rs200 fine imposed by a trial court on Kot Lakhpat Station House Officer (SHO) Afzal Rauf for failing to produce the case record in a narcotics case.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Sadiq Mehmood Khurram and Justice Jawad Zafar heard an appeal filed by SHO Afzal Rauf. Former Lahore High Court Bar secretary Farrukh Ilyas Cheema presented arguments on behalf of the appellant.

The trial court had imposed a fine of Rs200 on the Kot Lakhpat SHO for failing to produce the record in a narcotics case. Afzal Rauf challenged the penalty before the Lahore High Court.

During the hearing, the court also removed an office objection concerning the filing of the appeal. The objection had been raised because the appellant had not deposited the fine imposed by the trial court.

The SHO’s counsel assured the court that the fine would be deposited under protest. Following the assurance, the high court admitted the appeal for regular hearing and summoned the relevant record.

The court also ordered the suspension of the Rs200 fine imposed on Kot Lakhpat SHO Afzal Rauf against surety bonds worth Rs50,000.
