Summary The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that the 30-day detention orders for the three women had expired on October 19 and 20
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday summoned the Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail in person on October 28 in a case challenging the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s three sisters.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard a petition filed by Shahrez Khan, son of Aleema Khan, seeking the recovery of Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma Khan, who remain in custody under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance in connection with the PTI’s anti-government protest.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that the 30-day detention orders for the three women had expired on October 19 and 20. However, they continued to remain detained at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Justice Abher Gul Khan questioned the counsel about why the Lahore deputy commissioner had not been made a respondent in the petition.
In response, the counsel explained that the deputy commissioner had not been included because the detention notification issued by the official had expired.
During the proceedings, Ahed Khan, husband of Uzma Khan, requested that the court also summon the Lahore deputy commissioner. The judge observed that the official could not be summoned because he had not been made a party to the case.
According to the petition, the sisters remain in custody despite the expiry of their 30-day detention period.
Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma Khan were detained on September 21, ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 protest, which was later rescheduled for October 4. Aleema Khan was detained a day earlier, on September 20.
Shahrez Khan filed a fresh petition in the LHC a day before Thursday’s hearing, challenging the continued detention of the three sisters and seeking their release.
