Summary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved free BRT travel for citizens aged 60 and above under the Ehsaas Buzurg Card programme, with an estimated annual cost of Rs935 million.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) -The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved free travel on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses for senior citizens under the Ehsaas Buzurg Card programme.
The decision was taken during a meeting on the programme chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
Under the initiative, citizens aged 60 years and above will be eligible to travel free of charge on BRT buses using the Ehsaas Buzurg Card.
Officials informed the meeting that providing the free transport facility to elderly citizens would cost the provincial government an estimated Rs935 million annually.
Eligible senior citizens will undergo verification through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) before receiving their cards.
According to the plan, Ehsaas Buzurg Cards will be issued to verified beneficiaries within a period of five months.
The government has also introduced safeguards to prevent misuse of the facility. Anyone found misusing an Ehsaas Buzurg Card will face a Rs500 fine.
The initiative is aimed at easing transportation costs for elderly citizens and improving their access to public transport through the province’s BRT network.
