ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - An initial inquiry report into the PIMS incident has been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the investigation committee identifying the causes of the incident and those held responsible and recommending action against them.
Sources said the report was prepared by an inquiry committee headed by former interior secretary Shahid Khan and was submitted late Friday at the office of Prime Minister’s Adviser Tauqeer Shah. The committee also briefed officials about the report’s key findings and recommendations.
The report has been signed by all members of the inquiry committee, while the authority to make its contents public has been left with the prime minister.
According to sources, the inquiry examined the circumstances that led to the incident and also highlighted difficulties faced by rescue teams during relief operations.
The committee has recommended disciplinary action against relevant PIMS staff members who were absent at the time of the incident.
The report also contains recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. Interviews with PIMS administration officials and doctors have been included, along with statements from fire brigade and rescue personnel involved in the emergency response.
The inquiry committee also raised concerns about treatment arrangements and inadequate facilities at PIMS, observing that the available arrangements did not meet international standards.
Sources said the committee has urged the prime minister to take immediate action against those found responsible.
The prime minister has reportedly decided to initiate action in light of the inquiry findings, with proceedings against the relevant officials expected to begin soon.
Sources within the inquiry committee also confirmed that the report had been formally forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.
