(Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has highlighted technology, artificial intelligence and digital skills as key drivers of the province’s future, saying providing young people with modern education and employment opportunities is among the government’s top priorities.

Addressing the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026, she said big data was rapidly transforming economies and had become an important tool for planning and sustainable development.

Maryam said Punjab was taking significant steps to build a digital economy and turn the province into a centre for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

She said the provincial government was also encouraging investment in the technology sector by creating a favourable business environment.

The chief minister emphasised that Punjab’s youth possessed the talent needed to compete in the global technology market. Expanding digital governance, she added, would help improve transparency and the efficiency of government systems.

She further explained that big data could enable authorities to make better-informed policy decisions and strengthen public-sector planning.

Technology could also play a role beyond the economy, she said, noting that data-driven systems could assist with environmental monitoring and efforts to combat smog.

Maryam also underscored the close relationship between Pakistan and China, describing bilateral ties as being rooted in mutual trust and cooperation.
