Summary Speaking to journalists about the case, Wahab expressed solidarity with Mir Raza’s family during their difficult time
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has said that those responsible for the death of Mir Raza must be punished in accordance with the law, stressing that ensuring justice for the victim’s family is the government’s responsibility.
Speaking to journalists about the case, Wahab expressed solidarity with Mir Raza’s family during their difficult time and prayed that Allah grant the bereaved family patience and strength.
Wahab said the incident occurred on July 28 and came to public attention the following day.
He said Karachi’s Additional Inspector General of Police initially constituted a five-member investigation team to probe the matter.
According to the mayor, Jinnah Hospital’s medical report was shared with police, after which the surgeon provided further information regarding possible factors surrounding the incident.
Wahab said the Additional IG later dissolved the investigation team headed by an SP after questions and doubts were raised about the initial investigation.
He said a decision was taken on August 9 to establish a judicial commission, and the announcement was made in the presence of Mir Raza’s parents.
Wahab said Mir Raza’s mother had complained that the police were attempting to steer the case toward a suicide conclusion.

“We told Mir Raza’s mother that we would ensure justice,” Wahab said. However, he added that the deceased’s mother later sent a message at night requesting that the judicial commission not be constituted immediately.
According to Wahab, Mir Raza’s mother said she was satisfied with the new investigation team.
After discussions with Sindh Chief Minister and the provincial home minister, officials decided to proceed according to the wishes of the deceased’s mother, and the formation of the judicial commission was consequently postponed.
Wahab said that on August 19, Mir Raza’s lawyer wrote to the Sindh chief minister, alleging in the letter that the provincial home minister and Sindh inspector general of police had “completely failed” in handling the case.
He said the chief minister convened a meeting on August 21, during which police officials were questioned about the lawyer’s letter.
Following the meeting, the chief minister deemed it appropriate to refer the matter to a judicial commission, Wahab said.
