Rain lashes twin cities as Nullah Lai water level rises

(Dunya News) - Heavy rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday increased the flow of water in Nullah Lai, prompting authorities to step up monitoring of the waterway and vulnerable areas.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Golra received the highest rainfall at 60mm, followed by Bokra with 31mm, Shamsabad and Pirwadhai with 25mm each, New Katarian with 21mm and Gawalmandi with 22mm.

Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) said the heavy downpour had once again increased the flow in Nullah Lai.

The water level at Katarian was recorded at 11 feet, he said.

Wasa teams and heavy machinery have been deployed along Nullah Lai and in vulnerable low-lying areas to deal with any emergency. Additional staff has also been stationed in areas at risk of flooding.

The Wasa managing director said a rain emergency remained in place in Rawalpindi due to the prevailing weather conditions.

A rain emergency is in force in Rawalpindi, with authorities continuing to monitor Nullah Lai and other drains amid the possibility of further rainfall.
