MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has awarded party tickets to seven candidates for eight reserved seats in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, accelerating the process of forming the new government and electing members on reserved seats.

Abdul Rehman has been nominated for the seat reserved for overseas Kashmiris, while Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani has been awarded the ticket for the technocrat seat and Maulana Mazhar Saeed for the seat reserved for Ulema and Mashaikh.

In the recent AJK general elections, PML-N emerged as the largest parliamentary party by securing 25 of the 45 directly elected seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured 12 seats.

Following the reserved-seat elections, PML-N is expected to further strengthen its position in the Legislative Assembly.

If PML-N secures three women’s seats, one Ulema and Mashaikh seat, one technocrat seat and one seat reserved for overseas Kashmiris, its strength could reach 32 with the support of elected member Sajid Iqbal Abbasi.

The PPP, meanwhile, is expected to secure two women’s reserved seats, which would take its strength in the House to 14.
