ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court has fixed for hearing petitions filed by human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chaudhry seeking suspension of their sentences in the controversial tweets case.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan will hear the petitions on August 19. Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim will also be part of the bench.
The Supreme Court has issued notices to all parties in the case.
At the next hearing, the court will consider the petitioners’ requests for suspension of their sentences along with other legal points related to the case.
Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chaudhry, were sentenced to 17 years in prison each and fined Rs36 million each under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
