Summary Punjab traffic police are shifting from grey uniforms to white shirts and navy trousers, with procurement of around 12,000 new uniforms approved.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Traffic police personnel across Punjab are being shifted to a new uniform, replacing the previously used grey outfit with a combination of white shirts and navy blue trousers.
Police sources said the new attire is part of a province-wide uniform replacement plan, with procurement expected to take place during the current financial year.
Lahore traffic police personnel had already been provided with a new uniform last year as part of an earlier change in the dress code.
According to sources, the uniform revision was approved last year, with the rollout planned in phases. Lahore was to be covered initially, followed by traffic police units across other districts of Punjab.
Sources said former Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Athar Waheed had allocated Rs5,000 per officer for the purchase of traffic police uniforms during the earlier exercise.
Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim has now approved the procurement of around 12,000 new uniforms for traffic police personnel, sources said.
The pre-qualification process for suppliers is expected to begin this week for the purchase of uniforms for traffic police and other units of the Punjab Police.
The latest change is expected to standardise the appearance of traffic personnel across the province while replacing the older grey uniform with the newly approved colour scheme.
