SKARDU (Dunya News) — Five more bodies of climbers who tragically died in a massive avalanche on Broad Peak have been transported to Skardu. With this development, a total of eight bodies have been recovered and moved from the mountain so far, while search operations remain underway to locate two missing individuals.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, a ground recovery team comprising Pakistani and Nepalese climbers—including world-record mountaineer Nirmal Purja—successfully recovered the bodies of eight climbers. Search efforts are currently ongoing to locate Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi and a foreign female climber.
The fatal avalanche struck Broad Peak several days ago, claiming the lives of 10 climbers in what the President of the Alpine Club described as one of the most devastating incidents in the mountain's history.
The Alpine Club President detailed that on the first day of search operations, the bodies of a Nepalese climber and an Omani female climber were recovered, alongside partial remains of a third climber.
On Thursday, with the assistance of Pakistan Army helicopters, five more bodies—comprising four Nepalese climbers and one Chinese national—were airlifted and safely transferred to Skardu.
